Make a difference today!
Please join hand in helping us meet the needs of vulnerable people in Kenya by donating: Books, Clothing, Toys, Beddings, Utensils, Non-perishable foods, and Medical equipment.
This is a project of Hakimani New England in collaboration with Zawadi Foundation. Zawadi Foundation is a US-based International Non-profit organization established in 2005 by Ms Janice Njiru together with close friends and family. Her inspiration was inspired by the youthful happy moments she spent with her newly born niece who seemed to draw an affinity to all her toys. The empathy drawn from reflecting on the unfortunate children in Africa who couldn’t share the same joy as Nia (her niece) allowed Janice to create this compassionate organization – Zawadi foundation.
It is Zawadi’s mission to provide less fortunate children in developing parts of the world with happy moments. While we recognize that there are many social ills that plague the developing world, it is our mission to alleviate the severity of poverty in each of these children’s lives by providing them with an item that would otherwise be difficult for them to attain.

Latest Book: The Nairobi Basic Needs Basket (2008)
Jesuit Hakimani Centre has done The Nairobi Basic Needs Basket research over the years as a way of bringing to prominence in policy discourse, design and implementation of household food affordability or lack thereof in the informal settlements. The current phenomenon of rising food prices to begin with needs to be expressed much more as a concern by various stakeholders, especially by the government as duty bearer of people’s welfare. In the words of the World Bank President on rising global food prices, “Food policy needs to gain the attention of the highest political levels, because no one country or group can meet these interconnected challenges."
